Why We're Introducing RunRide Pro

An honest look at our server costs, our tiny donation income, and why we need to turn RunRide into a $4.99/year Pro plan to keep the project alive.

Hey everyone! I'm Stoyan, the solo developer behind RunRide Studio.

I started RunRide Studio as a passion project because I love running and cycling and wanted better, more visual tools for my Strava activities. Over time, thousands of athletes joined in to generate posters, review their gear, and use our home screen widgets.

I love working on these tools and want to keep this project running for years to come. But to be completely transparent, keeping the service online has become very hard to maintain financially.

The Reality: $800 Costs vs $100 in Donations

RunRide Studio isn't a static website. Every day, it ingests GPS activity streams, stores athlete history, processes detailed metrics, and keeps data in sync through continuous background server jobs and a dedicated database.

Maintaining this project costs me $800 per year in servers and database hosting costs. Meanwhile, the revenue from voluntary donations over the past year was only $100.

Covering a $700 deficit out of pocket every single year is no longer sustainable. It makes it really hard to maintain the servers, fix issues, and keep the platform online.

That leaves a hard choice: either shut down RunRide Studio completely, fill it with intrusive ads and track your data, or turn it into a sustainable Pro service.

I refuse to fill the app with noisy ads or sell athlete data to third parties. That is why I need to turn RunRide into a Pro service if I want to keep it alive.
